Gear Up Today At U.S. Cavalry!

27th January 1938

413px-Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-H28122,_Werner_von_BlombergField Marshall Werner von Blomberg married just over 2 weeks ago, but revelations that his new wife once posed for pornographic pictures have brought about his downfall.

Herman Goring and Heirich Himmler have both coveted the role of Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, but the role has been Blomberg’s since 1935. Blomberg attended the Hossbach meeting in this role, back in November 1937.

Blomberg, aged 59, married the 26 year old Erna Gruhn on 12th January this year. Gruhn is well known to the police. Widowed in 1932, when his first wife Charlotte died leaving him with 5 children, Blomberg found his new love in the typist and secretary, the daughter of a prostitute with a long police file. Buried in the reports was information that Gruhn had posed for pornographic photos, taken by a Jew with whom she was living at the time.

The police report was given to both the Gestapo and Goring. Depite being Blomberg’s best man only two weeks prior, he reported it to Hitler, also a wedding guest. Hitler ordered the wedding be annulled immediately to preserve the dignity of the Army, as well as protect the upcoming marriage of Blomberg’s daughter to General Keitel’s oldest son from scandal.

Blomberg refused and Goring went public with the details, forcing Blomberg’s resignation from all official posts, including C-in-C of the Armed Forces. It is likely that Blomberg and his wife will be exiled to the Isle of Capri until the scandal blows over.

There are rumours that Goring and Himmler are also planning a move against the Chief of the Army, accusing him of homosexuality. It remains to be seen what Hitler will do, but with all the scandal at the top echelons of the Armed Forces, he will need to appoint new and stable command structures quickly.
